Biography
Duncan Simmons, TWS, Watercolor Art Society Houston
Duncan Simmons was educated at Sam Houston State University, The University of Houston School of Law, the Art League of Houston and The Houston Museum of Fine Art Glassell School of Art.
He has been painting in oils and acrylics for the past forty years. He started painting in watercolor in 1996. Duncan has exhibited his works in oils and acrylics for many years in one man and group shows in Houston and is presently represented by National Art Services Co. Inc. in Houston, TX.
Duncan started entering juried watercolor shows six years ago and has been accepted in over one hundred juried regional, national and international shows. He has received over fifty awards including twelve first place awards. Three first place awards were in the Watercolor Art Society of Houston’s 27th Annual International Juried Exhibition 2004, Watercolor Society of Alabama 66th Annual National Exhibition 2007, and 10th Annual National All Media Rio Brazos Art Exhibition 2007.
He has painted commissions for many hospitals, banks, individuals and corporations including the Memorial Hermann Hospital System, The University of Texas, Rowan Companies, Petris Technology and Chevron.
His work has been published in Watercolor Magic, the number one magazine for water media artist. He was featured as one of the twenty-six masters in Watercolor Magic’s February 2005 issue. He was a finalist in the 2004 Artist Magazine competition and he was in the Top 200 Arts for the Parks competition in 2005 and had two paintings in the Top 100 Arts for the Parks in 2006.
Duncan shares his years of experience with other artists by teaching, giving workshops and conducting critiques. He is a member of many artist societies including the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Texas Watercolor Society, Watercolor Art Society of Houston and the Art League of Houston. He has been awarded signature membership in six artist societies and has reached Sage Brush status in the Texas Watercolor Society and Elite status in the Watercolor Art Society of Houston.
