Artist's Profile
"My work is significantly influenced by the two poles of the Yin and the Yang, the Asian positive and negative, and the interaction between humans and nature." The five principles of my work are:
Art should be a fusion of two schools: art should be created for art itself, and should be created for social and political reasons: "lifelike" art. Lines are meaningful…I study the line by virtue of its focus.
I stand between two cultures: Western and Asian. The Western focuses on extroversion and speed. The Asian is introverted and intentional in its focus. My art reflects interplay between objects or forms that communicate a message or story.
My use of objects in nature symbolize the 'circle of life.' Fish are symbolic of 'good luck'; the apple symbolizes the 'dream' of a good harvest: prosperity…flowers symbolize 'happiness' and water is for 'good fortune.'
My reductive woodcut prints are limited editions under 20 in number. The heavy layered woodblock ink gives a three dimensional texture…with multiple stages of carving away...All pieces require 12 to 15 layers [of ink] before the desired image is complete.
