Dino Paravano

Artist's Profile

AMERICAN ARTIST – BORN IN ITALY, "OUT OF AFRICA" Dino Paravano - born in 1935 in Italy, lived in South Africa for 44 years, after immigrating there with his family in 1947. He began painting at an early age, initially encouraged by his father and subsequently attending the Johannesburg College of Art to further his studies. Ultimately he is mainly self-taught, having perfected his unique technique of using light, which is evident in all his paintings, and for which he is famous. Dino travels extensively, in pursuit of subject matter, and during the years spent in South Africa it afforded him the privilege of viewing the animal and it's natural habitat, in diverse settings -- in all the National and private Game Reserves of the region. The "heart-beat" of Africa truly made an impact on his palette; to the discerning viewer the earthy tones that are present in his African studies, reflect his ability to capture the essence of the bush veldt. Being totally dedicated to his Art, Dino gained recognition as one of the prominent South African Artists, and had many very successful one-man exhibitions in SA, starting with his first one-man show in 1968. Subsequent shows were ‘sell-outs,’ setting a precedent, with people lining up outside the Galleries the night before the opening! Major South African Corporate Companies, as well as private collectors purchased Dino’s works at the time. In the early 1970's he decided to venture farther a-field. He came to the USA to explore the American scene. His work was so well receive that he began to travel to and from the USA on a regular bass, incorporating research of North American nature and wildlife, since the vibrant enthusiasm and competitiveness was an inspiration to his creative nature. He subsequently decided to move to the USA, where he achieved wider international recognition. Dino and his wife Kiki have been living in Tucson Arizona since 1992. They both love this great land, and became American Citizens in 1998. Dino Paravano has gone from strength to strength in American, British and International art scene, and has many credits to his name. From 1968 Dino has held 14 one-man shows in major South African cities, New York and London, plus 220 International exhibitions; over 100 of which were Museum Shows. Since 1979 his work was selected every year for the” Society of Animal Artists” annual exhibition and subsequent year tour This year will mark the twenty-second consecutive year of participation in: "Birds in Art" also five years in "Wildlife: The Artist's View" held by the “Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum” in Wausau, Wisconsin, plus the follow-up year tours of national and international Museums. It is a privilege as well as an achievement; approximately 100 works by 600 artists with over a 1,000 entries worldwide are chosen for the annual exhibition, and only 50 works are selected for the year tour.
