The
roots of Ambleside Gallery go back to 1982 when Ambleside Fine Arts
was established in Manchester England. Representing several of England’s
leading watercolorists, the company was responsible for the marketing
and sales of their works throughout England and North America. In
1994 Ambleside Gallery opened its doors in Grosse Pointe, Michigan
and remained there for ten rewarding years. Over its twenty-two
year history, Ambleside has acquired a reputation for the consistent
quality of its offerings and its commitment to every aspect of service
to its customers.
More
recently, the Ambleside management team moved the business to Greensboro,
establishing Ambleside Gallery in the heart of historic Southside–part
of the renaissance blossoming in this fascinating, evolving North
Carolina city.
The
original works of art carried by Ambleside are of various media:
oil, watercolor, pastel, graphite, mixed media and a range of print
media: etching, lithography, woodcuts, etc. Fine sculpture is also
included amongst the gallery offerings. All works are authentic
original creations by living artists from the United States, England,
Europe and Asia.
In addition to the sale of original paintings and sculpture, Ambleside
Gallery offers custom framing, restoration, appraisals and in-home
art consulting.
The
Gallery itself is a timeless work of art. Visitors enter the gallery
spaces through beautiful, hand-milled, solid cherry-wood arches.
Faux painted walls and rare antique furniture create a warm and friendly yet sophisticated ambience.
French doors open out on a secret garden shared by Jules Worldwide
Antiques, next door.
But
the ultimate purpose of such an exquisite setting is to present,
in a manner worthy of the art, some of the finest paintings and
sculpture ever seen in the region.
Artists
from around the world fill the gallery with their museum-quality
works of art. Among them are English artists Phil Hobbs, Kenneth
Denton, and Matthew Hillier. American painters Bill Hosner, Tracy
Reid, Richard Sedlack and Rich Nelson, and internationally recognized
Chinese watercolorist Guan Weixing, plus many other noteworthy artists
are included in the gallery collections.
Exhibitions
and artists’ receptions will be scheduled year-round.
Art
history lectures by scholars will be presented from time to time.
Musical
performances will be a regular feature at Ambleside.
An
inviting Tea Room provides an opportunity for visitors to sit with
friends and enjoy refreshments surrounded by the gallery’s
peaceful atmosphere.
Ambleside
Gallery is open Monday through Saturday 11am to 6pm, and by appointment.
The gallery space is also available for rental for corporate, community
and private gatherings.
